Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Things to Eat/Drink While Reading

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme that was previously hosted at The Broke and The Bookish, but moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in 2018! It is where a bookish topic is assigned and you simply make a list of your top ten books/items/things that fall under that topic!

So with no further ado…

The Top Ten Favorite Things That I Like to Eat or Drink While Reading

10. Coffee

I feel like this should be a given, because seriously the majority of readers I know are caffeine addicts. This is no different for me. If I could safely, like, mainline caffeine directly directly into my veins, I would (but please don’t really do that it’s actually terrible for you). I love coffee. I love hot coffee , cold brew coffee, iced coffee, Thai coffee, Cuban coffee…well, the list goes on. I’m done. You understand my point.

9. Chips

In a continuation of my healthy life choices, I’m also a major potato addict. I love most carbs, but I have a special place in my heart for potatoes. I seriously lived on Lay’s Kettle Cooked Beer Cheese chips for the entire length of time they were out. But chips are so handy because you eat them one-handed (for reading, duh!) and the bag is so mobile! And terrible for you. We’ve been trying not to buy them as much anymore for healthy-people reasons but it makes me sad inside.

8. Hot Cocoa

I’m in a fall mood. I know, I know, it’s still September, but give me cute boots, slouchy sweaters, fluffy blankets, falling leaves, and HOT COCOA ALL THE TIME. Being warm is great, but being cozy is THE BEST. There is no better feeling in the world than curling up on a couch with my comfy blanket, my book, my hoodie-sleeve-mitten things (what do you call that? I just yank my sleeves down over my hands and try to go about my life. Is that weird? I’m probably weird. Moving on.) and my cup of hot cocoa at the ready.

7. French Fries

In a continuation of my love affair of potatoes, we come to my true love: french fries. Unfortunately, I can’t make them myself (because they come out all floppy and greasy and just less good) or stock them in advance (good, unfrozen ones, anyway) so they fall lower on the list because I am a lazy person and they require me to go buy them. Let’s just forget about the fact that if I did actually snack on french fries every single time I read a book I’d be an exceedingly unhealthy individual. In my dream world, I can eat all the fries I want in my own personal library that has every book I could ever want and I’d never gain a pound. Or go to work..or have responsibilities…or student loans. Okay, rant over.

6. Wine (or any other alcoholic beverage)

Yeah, this is an obvious one haha. I could ALWAYS curl up with a nice glass of dry red or sweet white or rosΓ©. Or a bourbon and Coke. YUM. It always makes any story, particularly a fantasy or mystery or contemporary, so much better! So long as I exhibit some semblance of self-control of I want to remember any part of the story!

5. Chocolate

I mean, this kind of speaks for itself, doesn’t it? While I do tend to prefer savory over sweet if given the choice, who doesn’t like chocolate? As long as I do it one-handed and keep the chocolate-y hand off my pages, because ew, and that would make me sad.

4. Mountain Dew

Anddddd we’re back. Mt. Dew is probably my all-time favorite soda in the world. I lived on it in high school, but I quit cold-turkey in college because it finally occurred to me how absolutely AWFUL this is for you. But this didn’t say HEALTHY list of things to eat and drink, so this is my dream list. *shrugs* We’ll add it to my french fries in my dream world.

3. Tuna and Crackers

This is also incredibly exciting, I know, but it doesn’t have to be while I’m reading. If I’m trying to be healthier and I need a snack, this is cheap, quick, easy, and I can eat it one-handed to hold a book in the other.

2. Tea

I’m going to admit something here: I’m a tea novice. My hot tea experience is pretty much Lipton black tea with like…3 tablespoons of honey in it. Some of the citrus-y teas are good, too, but I’d like to get into trying more teas that taste less like marginally flavored water. People love it so much that I feel like I’m doing it wrong! If you have any suggestions, I’d be happy to hear them!

1. Soup

Did I mention I was in a fall mood? I love soup. This is probably not the best reading companion for a book, because of splashing and whatnot, but add it to my aforementioned cozy scene with my hot cocoa, because I just want it to BE HERE already. Any kind of soup, really. Chicken noodle, clam chowder, tomato bisque…the list can go on and on.

And there we have it! What are your favorite things to eat or drink while reading a book? Do you have any awesome previous Top Ten Tuesday posts? Leave a link for me down below in the comments!
