Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Tressa over at Wishful Endings! It’s purpose is to spotlight a book that you can’t wait for. That can apply to either books that haven’t been released yet, or just books you have yet to get to reading!
My last one of these was a loooooong time ago. The last book I featured has since come out, and it deserves literally all of the hate. Seriously, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was…terrible. But I digress.
Let’s get to it then, shall we?
For this week’s Can’t Wait Wednesday, I’d like to talk about the finale in Nora Roberts’ latest trilogy: The Rise of Magicks.
The Chronicles of the One: The Rise of Magicks
By Nora Roberts
Expected Publication Date: November 26, 2019
If you haven’t read the first two books in the series (Year One and Of Blood and Bone)…you need to. I’ll post the synopsis of this one below, but it may get a little spoiler-y for the first two. Just as a warning!
Synopsis from Goodreads:
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Year One and Of Blood and Bone concludes her stunning trilogy that the New York Times Book Review praised as “A match for end-of-the-world classics like Stephen King’s The Stand.”
After the sickness known as the Doom destroyed civilization, magick has become commonplace, and Fallon Swift has spent her young years learning its ways. Fallon cannot live in peace until she frees those who have been preyed upon by the government or the fanatical Purity Warriors, endlessly hunted or locked up in laboratories, brutalized for years on end. She is determined to save even those who have been complicit with this evil out of fear or weakness—if, indeed, they can be saved.
Strengthened by the bond she shares with her fellow warrior, Duncan, Fallon has already succeeded in rescuing countless shifters and elves and ordinary humans. Now she must help them heal—and rediscover the light and faith within themselves. For although from the time of her birth, she has been The One, she is still only one. And as she faces down an old nemesis, sets her sights on the enemy’s stronghold, and pursues her destiny—to finally restore the mystical shield that once protected them all—she will need an army behind her…
I get chills. I’m a Nora Roberts junkie. There are very few books of hers that I don’t enjoy, new or old. I wrote a bit about my hesitation with this series in a previous Top Ten Tuesday post, but she DELIVERED. It’s got dystopia. It’s got magic (or magick, I suppose). It’s got romance (it’s been a little light on that so far for a Nora Roberts book, but it promises to hit that note in this last book). And it’s got several bad ass female protagonists, which is always an automatic bonus for me.
If you haven’t started the series yet, DO IT. You won’t be disappointed.
